PLANNING

This section presents my planning work focused on shaping cities and neighborhoods through thoughtful, design-driven processes. My work operates at the intersection of long-term vision, policy, and community input—helping guide growth and change across multiple scales. Through mapping, documentation, public engagement, and visual communication, I approach planning as a place-based practice grounded in people and lived experience.

LONG RANGE PLANNING

A woman stands at a podium on a stage, giving a presentation in a darkened auditorium. Behind her, a large screen displays a logo and text for 'Envision El Paso,' with a cityscape and mountain illustration in the background.

My experience in comprehensive planning focuses on supporting long-range frameworks that guide how cities grow over time. This includes work at both citywide and district scales, helping translate broad goals into spatial strategies that can be implemented and understood.

FOCUS AREAS:

  • Citywide and district planning initiatives, such as the update to El Paso’s comprehensive plan, Envision El Paso

  • Place types and growth frameworks

  • Future land-use strategies

  • Translating long-term vision into implementable tools

ZONING & POLICY

People working on a project with colorful paper pieces, scissors, and printed sheets on a gray desk.

My zoning and policy work centers on aligning regulatory tools with planning intent. This includes supporting Future Land Use Map (FLUM) efforts, reviewing zoning conditions, and contributing to discussions on housing and development policy. I’m particularly interested in making policy clearer and more legible through spatial and visual thinking.

FOCUS AREAS:

  • FLUM development and coordination

  • Zoning condition and land-use review

  • Housing and development policy support

  • Visual interpretation & development of regulatory concepts

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

People attending a community event or meeting in an indoor hall with display boards, red tablecloths, and decorations, engaging in conversations and viewing posters.

Community engagement is a core part of my planning practice. I work to create accessible, meaningful opportunities for residents to participate in planning processes, using visuals and dialogue to bridge technical topics and lived experience.

FOCUS AREAS:

  • Public workshops and community meetings

  • Visual materials for public outreach

  • Collection and interpretation of community input

  • Translating feedback into planning insight

NEIGHBORHOOD ANALYSIS & DOCUMENTATION

My neighborhood analysis work focuses on understanding place through direct observation, documentation, and conversation with residents. Rather than relying only on data, this work emphasizes on-the-ground reconnaissance to study housing patterns, neighborhood character, and local challenges and opportunities.

FOCUS AREAS:

  • Organizing and participating in neighborhood tours with residents

  • Documenting community insights, opportunities, and challenges

  • Observing, documenting, and cataloging housing typologies, neighborhood context, and neighborhood character

  • Mapping housing types and developing neighborhood data sheets
